Goal: Reading Numbers 1 to 10; 
numerical symbols and words

Weekly Objectives:
1.     The children will be able to name numbers 1 to 10 singing along to songs, riddles, etc.
2.     The children will be able to identify numbers one to ten using different objects such as counters and flashcards.
3.     The children will be able to write the number symbols and words.
4.     The children will be able to demonstrate recognition of numbers one to ten when reading a storybook.

The children will be able to name numbers 1 to 10 singing along to songs, riddles, etc.

Warm up

-Counting with fingers 1 to 10
-Counting crabs 1 to 10
-Numbers flashcards, repeat after teacher

Objective discussion

Explain to students that this week we will study numbers 1 to 10.  We will learn the numbers names, write and read the symbols and names.

Instruction

Board work and real objects: Teacher will count a number of objects that reach a total of 10.

Model

Teacher will put a flashcard on the board point to the number symbol and the word one.
Repeat with each number until reaching number ten.

Guided practice

Students will pair up and match m&m chocolates with a flashcard of the number one and word one and call out the number.  The students will do so until number 10 and will get to eat the chocolates.

Less guided practice

Student will create flashcards for numbers one to ten. 

Assessment 

Student will show teacher his or her flashcards and name each number.

Explain to students that this week we are still studying numbers 1 to 10.  We will review the numbers names, write and read the symbols and names.  Today we will learn the song Ten Little Children.

Instruction

Song Ten Little Children: On the board teacher will write the lyrics to the song and read it out to the children.


Model

Teacher will sing and model TPR signs that accompany the song. 

Guided practice

Students will practice and sing song with teacher.  The Teacher will divide the class in small groups to have them practice the song together.


Less guided practice

Flashcards memory game.  Students will pair up and use their number flashcards.  They will use their cards by turning them over and playing a memory game together.

Assessment 

Students will re-group and sing the song to the rest of the class to applause and cheers.

Homework:  
Students will take a paper with the song printed out to practice at home.

Teacher will have class identify number flashcards.  The teacher will hold up the flashcard and have the students say the number they have identified.

Instruct and Model

At the board teacher will place an image with one object.  Next to the object write one.  Put another image with another object, next to the object write the correct number.

Guided practice

Students will work in small groups.  On poster board children will paste magazine images with objects.  Students will write the numbers using symbols and words of the objects in the images.

Less guided practice

Students will work in pairs in class textbook page 49 number identification practice.

Assessment 
Student will work independently in class textbook page 50 number identification assessment.

Homework:  
Create a poster to keep at home with number symbol and word.  Take a picture of your poster an email to teacher!

Teacher will have class identify number flashcards.  The teacher will hold up the flashcard and have the students say the number they have identified.

Objective discussion

Explain to students that this week we are still studying numbers 1 to 10.  We will review the numbers names, write and read the symbols and names.  Today we will work on writing numbers one to ten.

Instruction and Model

On the board teacher will sound out the numbers with the students to write the number words phonetically.

Guided practice

Students will work in pairs and with letter tiles will help each other to write out the words for numbers one to ten.

Less guided practice

Individually, students will cut newspaper letters to paste on a paper to write out the words for numbers one to ten.

Assessment 

Dictation numbers one to ten
Homework:  
Student will work on textbook page 51 number writing practice.
Objectives
The children will be able to demonstrate recognition of numbers one to ten when reading a storybook.

Model

Teacher will project a text that on the overhead and circle the number words she reads.

Guided practice

Teacher will project another text on the overhead and have the students go up and circle the words themselves.

Less guided practice

The student will work independently with a copy of the story.  The student will circle all the number words he or she reads.

Assessment 

Student will read the story out loud. 

Homework:  
Read the story to your parents!
Homework:   
Student will take number flashcards to study and review.
